GCC to pay millions as another road sinks

Some sections of the road are beginning to show signs of surface shifting, as did the Nokia Intersection two years ago. The road surface at Nokia traffic lights was redone last year, three years after the construction of the road was completed.

Attempts to get a comment from the City Clerk, Agnes Seragi have not been successful as a questionnaire sent three weeks ago has still not been answered. Mmegi's enquiries on the issue centre on where the responsibility falls in terms of footing the bill for any reconstruction done.  Is it the contractor or the council? It would also have been interesting to know if the GCC is aware that there are sections of the road shifting away.

According to sources, the GCC paid almost the whole bill for redoing the Nokia Intersection, the council may also not be aware of the recent problems along the road in question.

Parliamentarians last year demanded answers from the Ministry of Works and Transport on whether the cause of road defects was due to poor workmanship or poor material. The minister responsible was not forthcoming in his response.
