Tuks Senganga and Scar set to give soccer fans a treat

Speaking to Mmegi in an interview, one of the organisers, Moses Maruping, of WindRush Communications, said yesterday that the gig, which is called Soccer Meets Hip-Hop, was inspired by the ongoing 2010 FIFA World Cup in neighbouring South Africa.

'This do is our own celebration of the World Cup and revellers are encouraged to come wearing jerseys of their favourite teams and they should also bring their vuvuzelas so that we make some noise at the event, ' Maruping said.

He further said that some of the locals expected to perform at the event are Thato 'Scar' Matlhabaphiri, DJs Owen Rampha and Easy B and that there will also be surprise performances by other artists.  Maruping also said that soccer fans should not worry about missing out on matches; as they will be beamed live during intervals at the event.

Tuks' manager, Julius Finca said the reason why his artist will be coming to Botswana is to share the World Cup festivities with Batswana, whom he says are important neighbours.

'This World Cup is all about Africa and we thought we should bring this celebration to our neighbours. Most South Africans have decided to focus on South Africa during this time and forget about the rest of Africa, but we have decided to do something different,' said Finca adding that the spirit of brotherhood should prevail during special moments like this.

He further encouraged Batswana to attend the event because it was especially about them adding that the gig is not all about Tuks as it will feature local acts as well. He said Tuks' fans would be able to listen to songs from his latest album, Tshwanelo Encore and that they are going to bring some CDs for sale at the gig where he says there is going to be fun galore.

Award-winning Tuks Senganga, who is the main act, is one of the leading motswako artists in South Africa. Most motswako artists are South African Batswana who primarily seek to promote their language through music and poetry. Tshwanelo Encore, which was released a few weeks back, is Tuks' forth album.
