T-Izzy plans Jika Ma Jika

The Yarona fm Hotness Parts one and two presenter said the dance competition would be a replica of the SABC 1 dance show, Jika Ma Jika where competitors face off to different genres of music.

'The competitors will, however, be judged by the crowd as the more cheers you get the better your chances of winning,' said T-Izzy. He said the competitors will be eliminated stage-by-stage till the winner is determined.

'The reason we are not employing judges to the task of choosing a winner is because judges can at times be biased,' he said.

He said the competition would be much fair if judged by spectators and it would also give the competition the atmosphere it requires.

T-Izzy said the only difference with his show and Jika Ma Jika is that he will accommodate dance groups and not just individuals.

'Initially, the competition was a singles competition but we decided to accommodate groups since it's the first time we are hosting such an event,' he said. He said after the first show they will determine whether they should continue with the groups or keep it a singles competition.

T-Izzy said the objective of the competition is to revive the spirit of dance competitions in Botswana. The 21-year-old said growing up there used to be a lot of dance competitions in the form of variety shows, 'a culture that is dying out,' he said. He said that his dream is to see the competition growing into a profession.

He said if successful the prize money would keep on increasing and with time he would consider making a television show from it. 'Just like South African dancers, Batswana will be given an opportunity to turn their talent into a profession,' he said.

T-Izzy, however, urged people to register early for the competition to avoid disappointment. Registration is ongoing at the Yarona fm offices, and it is expected to end on Wednesday at 20hrs00. People can also access the 'Shake what your mama gave ya for P1 000,' page or my (T-Izzy's) profile on facebook and simply register by posting their group name on the wall,' he said. Groups are, however, requested to have no more than five members.

Eight DJs including Smallz, Phou Boy, Kops and Ricky la Mar are expected to keep dancers and spectators on their toes on the night.

The MCs and referees for the night will be Yarona fm presenters Miss B and Phaps. Scar, Eureka and SEG will also perform at the fun-filled event.
