BNFYL urges opposition to unite, unseat BDP

Speaking at a press conference held yesterday in Gaborone Ntime said that there is a big political revolution in motion in the country, as ruling Botswana Democratic Party splits, its members joining the newly formed Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD).

He urged the BNF and other opposition parties to come together and unseat the BDP, which he said has been weakened beyond repair. He said Khama might buckle under pressure.

'Either Khama calls for snap elections before 2014, say in two to three years or just hand it over to the military. Based on his misrule we have seen that he is autocratic and can give power to the military. If it happens are we prepared to fight for the democracy of our country? I am telling you he can't run this state in the next three years. He is exhausted. We will expose the ruling party,' said Ntime.Ntime disclosed that his youth committee has resolved that there will be extensive debates to iron out policy issues and possible models of the envisaged cooperation with other political parties. He said they would then draw a concept paper, which they will present before the BNF congress in July.

'To prepare for this cooperation process and to set the ball rolling, the BNFYL president has written letters to the presidents of the Botswana Congress Party and Botswana Movement for Democracy youth leagues requesting for a meeting to discuss the possibilities of having a joint massive communication of The Day of the African Child,' he said.On other matters Ntime said the BNFYL will take a position on which presidential candidate it considers more appropriate and well positioned to lead the BNF. He however added that this would take into considerations findings of a taskforce appointed to investigate the eligibility of presidential candidate Duma Boko.

Meanwhile Ntime said his committees will liaise with regional youth bodies like the African national Congress Youth League, Young Communist League of South Africa and others to define the 'destiny of our nations,' said the young leader.Efforts to reach the BDP's spokesman for comment were futile as he was not available on the phone.
