Match Day Six

Honduras 0 - Chile 1 Chile opened their 2010 World Cup campaign in good form as they won their first match in the finals after 48 years. Jean Beausejour scored in the 34th minute the only goal that secured their victory against Honduras that is still searching their first World Cup win. This first Group H game was played at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Spain 0 - Switzerland 1 Switzerland pulled the first 2010 World Cup upset by nipping favourites Spain one nil in a shock defeat at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The goal that assured the Swiss a historic victory was scored by Gelson Fernandes six minutes into the second half. With Chile and Switzerland both on three points, Spains chances of proceeding to the next round are slim and they would be on pressure to redeem themselves when they meet Honduras on Tuesday at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

South Africa 0 - Uruguay 3 South African supporters were left disillusioned as the hosts went three goals down against Uruguay at Loftus Stadium in Tshwane. Diego Forlan scored double before Alvaro Pereira made it three with a last minute header that sent the home crowd rushing to the exits. Forlans first strike came 24 minutes into the first half while the second was a penalty after Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune was sent off for fouling Luis Suarez in the box. The goals silenced the vuvuzelas and sent the crowds that braved the cold night and packed Loftus Stadium home. South Africa is will play France in a do-or-die match on Tuesday at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
