Mates team up to give Lister birthday to remember

The show was not only well-attended but a number of local artists turned up to wish the 'jolly good fellow' the best of luck in his future endeavours.  Miss Millennium, Theresa Hirschfeld, also attended the birthday bash.

Rhumba star, Franco Lesokwane, showed up although he did not perform.

The event was marked by a moving performance by the local artists in attendance including Mmegi/Monitor columnist  Rampholo Molefhe, Chedza Fani, Maxy Sedumedi, Margaret Thipe, Aubrei Woki, John Selolwane and the ladies of jazz Nnunu Ramagotsi, Nono Siile and Kearoma Rantao.  Missing from the ladies of jazz set up was Punah Gabasiane, who was babysitting.

The ladies of jazz who were singing with Maxy, dedicated a song to the birthday boy.  Lister who was accompanied by his wife and two daughters, stood shyly on the stage as he was showered with praises.  You could tell that he was not used to such things.

He is only used to entertaining revellers, but not to have all the attention focused on him.

A birthday cake was presented to the musician.  There was also a toast of champagne to mark the occasion. After the celebration, Lister was back on the stage to do what he knows best.  He gave his followers a dose of his magic as he rendered familiar tracks.

It was a battle of the sax between Lister and one of his band members, Fani.  Fani is proving that he is a sax player of repute.  The two sax men were quite a revelation as they blew a storm.   A veteran songbird Thipe and Selolwane joined Lister on the stage.   Selolwane is still unrivalled when it comes to the guitar.

Lister rendered a track from his forthcoming album.  There was also another song that he dedicated to his pretty wife.   Lister intends to go to the studio before the end of the year.  His debut album, Life's A Journey is still popular with the revellers.  Although he has been playing for BDF Band for a long time, it was his album that has put him on the map.

But it is high time that he should come up with a follow-up album.

As for his birthday, the easy-going artist said he has never celebrated such events.   Actually, it was the first time for him to celebrate in style. Lister did not spend the whole day with the rest of the family because he was attending a wedding ceremony in Serowe over the weekend.  He only arrived in Gaborone late on Sunday and dashed to the show.

But he was quite grateful that other artists had organised something special for him.  He said it was a great day for him. For Lister there was no better way to celebrate his birthday than with a gig.  The revellers also had a grand time, dancing away the blues.
