Kweneng South BDP youth miss congress

Raletobana's name was once mentioned among the Barata-Phathi faction, which defected to form the Botswana Movement for Democracy following a resolution taken at Mogoditshane.

Raletobana did not however, join the BMD. Yesterday, enquiries revealed that 56 constituencies sent delegates, adding that Raletobana's branch did not send any.'At the moment I don't know why they did not come. Perhaps you should ask him why they didn't come,' he said.

For his part Raletobana said that he has never been approached by anyone to tell him that they should hold a mini-congress to elect delegates to go and vote at the youth congress.

'I understand that some people were approached around the country and asked to be at the forefront in the compromise elections. Perhaps I was not approached because I am an elder, but I can confirm that indeed Kweneng South East youth did not send delegates to the congress in Gaborone,' he said.

Efforts to talk to the Kweneng South East youth and branch leadership drew a blank as the branch chairman Pelaelo Oreetseng said they are not in a position to comment 'because the party office is the one which can answer such questions'.

On the other hand Mahalapye East MP, Botlhogile Tshireletso, said there was nothing wrong with a branch being absent from congress. She said that during her time as a youth leader they would have about five branches missing from a congress, 'and I don't know what the fuss is this time. Is it because some BDP people had defected to the BMD?

'But for your information, my branch was represented. We had a branch meeting where the youth delegates were elected for the youth congress,' she said.

MP for Mogoditshane, Patrick Masimolole, also says his branch also held a congress to elect youth delegates to the main youth meeting.
