UCCSA pastor Tiego in divorce court

In court papers filed in February, Tiego says their marriage has broken down irretrievably and that they have reached a settlement on how to divide their estate and have resolved to live separate lives. The two were married in 2005 in-community-of-property and the divorce is uncontested.

When the case was called in court on Friday there was confusion as to what should happen as neither Tiego nor his wife were present. However, one of the court officers told Justice Onkemetse Tshosa that Tiego had indicated that he was withdrawing the divorce. The case was postponed to a later date.

Meanwhile, the headmistress of Boitshoko CJSS in Molepolole, Persina Mmualefhe was on Friday granted a divorce by the court from her husband of 20 years - Basimane Mmualefhe. Persina's attorney told the court that the parties have reached a settlement agreement on how to divide their estate as well as the custody of their only child, who is doing Form Five. The attorney said that she was surprised at Basimane's recent application to oppose the divorce after everything was finalised between the parties prior to the Friday hearing.

The judge granted Persina the divorce but said that the court should hear the husband's side on the contents of the written agreement.

Pelonomi Paledi was also granted divorce from her husband of four years Benjamin Paledi after the latter engaged in adultery. She told the court that her husband was involved in a love affair with Seipone Masomosomo and they have a two-year-old baby. The court further heard that the two have admitted the charge and have agreed to compensate her with P8,000. All three were in court.

Meanwhile, Motebele Rasekepe will have to stay in his broken marriage for a while, before the court finalises his divorce in August. Rasekepe who wants to divorce Elizabeth, tried to convince the court to continue with the case citing hardship because his wife has frozen his bank accounts. The attorney representing his wife, Doreen Khama stated that Rasekepe engaged a different legal team this week and she was only informed about the change on Thursday. She argued that the case should not continue because it would be a waste of time, as other critical aspects would be left behind only to take the court's time later.

Justice Tshosa ruled that the case should not continue because Rasekepe only just engaged a new legal team and they have also complained that they were not ready to continue with the case on Friday. He adjourned the case to August 6 and the parties were ordered to meet and divide their estate and decide on the custody of their children.
