BOCCIM to conduct post-recession study

The study is expected to place a more concentrated focus on mining and energy projects because the sector was the hardest hit by the crisis.

Speaking at the organisation's 38th annual general meeting in Gaborone on Wednesday, BOCCIM President Modiri Mbaakanyi said the crisis was so widespread that even Small, Micro and Medium Enterprise (SMMEs) were not spared and were still reeling from it.

The Executive Director, Maria Machailo-Ellis, said tourism would also be covered because it suffered a similarly harsh fate and that a special bank account was being set for the project.

Mbaakanyi said BOCCIM would embark on a diversification mission to create business partnerships for long-term benefit. To that end, BOCCIM had established a relationship with Bangladesh for the textile industry, with India for pharmaceuticals and mining, and Japan across various business sectors.

A pavement for the development of potential business ties was created by means of sending a delegation to that country.

Infact, 65 entrepreneurs were sent to Zimbabwe and some of them had reported being close to sealing business deals.
