Selolwane boost for Zebras

The Zebras are presently in camp for the crucial clash, but the player was called by his new club, SuperSport, for pre-season training last week.

Selolwane said the Botswana Football Association (BFA) has sent an invite to his club and they are likely to release him. 'I was speaking to Gavin Hunt today (Wednesday) and he told me that he got a request from the BFA. I still have to talk to the club and hear whether they want to release me, but I think they will,' said Selolwane in a telephone interview from his new Pretoria base. 'I'm still a Zebra and I would want to play the game,' said the former Ajax Cape Town ace. The availability of Selolwane will come as a relief to coach Stanley Tshosane who is already without veteran utility player Mogogi Gabonamong and his Cape Town Santos team mate, Boitumelo Mafoko, former Bay United winger Pontsho Moloi and Mochudi Centre Chiefs' defender Tshepo 'Talk-Talk' Motlhabankwe. Michael Mogaladi of Chiefs and Township Rollers' striker, Onalethata Tshekiso, missed the Lesotho friendly international on Wednesday owing to injury.

Sources close to Gabonamong, the Santos' skipper, said he does not want to feature for the national team.

The recall of Togo by the Confederation of African Football into the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers means the Zebras have to change their programme and Selolwane believes there is little time to prepare.

The Zebras visit Tunisia's Carthage Eagles next Saturday before playing host to Chad the following weekend. Selolwane is convinced that with adequate preparations, the Zebras can spring surprises in the qualifiers. 'With proper planning and adequate preparations, we can do well. In football, there is always a chance no matter how good the other teams are,' he said
