Selebi-Phikwe soccer fails financial test

SPRFA chairperson, Tebro Onkabetse, said treasurer Peter Esau was supposed to present the report at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held early this month. Esau was absent from the meeting but Onkabetse has promised that the treasurer will deliver the financial reports at a date to be announced. The clubs have complained that despite keeping up with annual subscriptions, they have not received the audited financial reports. 'There is no accountability. Two years is a long time and we cannot expect a region to operate for such a lengthy period without knowing the status of its finances,' one of the clubs' representatives complained during the AGM.

Onkabetse said they put off the presentation of the financial report as teams might not have attended the AGM due to the on-going World Cup.

'We are planning to call them after the World Cup because at the moment when people knock off, they rush to their homes to watch games. It will be hard to convince them to come and we do not want to organise a meeting that will be a flop. You must remember that teams are run by volunteers and they cannot be forced to attend (meetings),' said Onkabetse.

Meanwhile, SPRFA secretary, Ernest Molapisi, dismissed allegations of financial impropriety, saying their committee has been in office for a short period. He said the previous committee should come forward and inform clubs about the region's financial status.
