BCA donates cricket equipment for grassroots development

All the schools received bats, pads, protective helmets, batting gloves, wicket keeping gloves, box, thigh pads and cricket balls. The equipment cost P3,500 for each school.

BCA northern coordinator, Clement Chipanga, said since the introduction of the youth development programme, the sport has realised growth. 'We want to see the sport becoming popular in Botswana like in the Asian countries where there is passion for the sport,' Chipanga said.

BCA vice chairperson, Praful Jog, said they have embarked on a development programme driven by their motto: 'Bringing Cricket to the Nation'.

'I believe in building a healthy and more tolerant society. Cricket is a great educator and nothing in cricket is certain and there is always a lesson to be learnt,' Jog said.

He stated that over the years, the BCA development programme has spread outside Gaborone and it continues to grow.

He said the success of cricket remains linked to the quality of teaching or coaching to be delivered by teachers as coaches. He said the donation of the cricket equipment will contribute greatly to delivering quality cricket.

He added that BCA is proud of the cricket development players who have represented Botswana in international competitions. Some of the players are Thuso Motlogelwa, Rashad Mosweu and Obakeng Mmusi.
