We are not in crisis - BDP

The issues relate to the recent meeting by the Committee at Maharaj Conference Centre, which the media published out of context. The truth is;

* The BDP like any other party has friends and sympathisers, who are not necessarily members of the party.

*Like all other political parties, the BDP can hold an indoor meeting (s) with non-party activists, which meeting is meant to discuss issues either relevant to the party or to the nation at large.

* It is in this context that the meeting between the Publicity Committee and the friends of the party was convened to among other things, discuss issues relevant to party issues within the context of the current political climate.

*The media has deliberately misconstrued the purpose of the said meeting to solely discuss the Media Strategy when infact the truth is that the BDP media strategy has long been in place as far back as 2008 and was revised early 2010. This is the strategy that resulted in the creation/ formation of the Public Relations office in May 2010.

*It is also alleged that, at the same meeting, the Publicity and Culture Committee discussed the issue of the BDP Chairman and either resolved or advised that action be taken against the Party Chairman, Rre Daniel Kwelagobe.

*We want to put it on record that the Publicity and Culture Committee never, at any time, discussed the issue of the Chairman's actions in relation to the current developments within the party.

* We as the Committee, are alive to Rre Kwelagobe's recent press statement that he is a true democrat, a member of the BDP and Chairman of the BDP and that he has no intention whatsoever to resign from BDP to join any party. He further called on all political detractors to stop using his name for their political ends. We trust, believe and support this position.

*Another malicious statement that has also been widely published is that of a possible Cabinet reshuffle and the possibility of dropping the Vice President and replacing him with someone else.

These statements are false and far from the truth. The President has no intention now to reshuffle his Cabinet or even to drop the Vice President.

These statements come from the detractors of the party who are hell-bent on seeing the BDP being divided and thus come up with these malicious statements to cause anxiety and confusion within the party and the nation at large. Lastly, it is erroneous for some people to suggest that the BDP has lost all its youthful, vibrant and educated members.

The truth is that, the BDP has a lot of these youthful and dedicated cadres who have pledged to continue their loyalty, dedication and hard work to the party.  We assure MaDomkraga and the nation at large that the BDP still continues to be their party and that we will deliver as per their mandate.
