Hotness In The Cold donates to Lobatse needy

This year, proceeds from the highly publicised campaign will be donated to the Lobatse Council on Friday (July 9).The campaign started three years ago and proceeds have been distributed to different regions. In 2008 about 10 bags of clothing, food and blankets were donated to the Lephoi Centre for the Blind in Francistown. Motsisi, however, said the campaign was not so successful because only clothes were donated to the Leratong Centre for Orphans in Thamaga.

This year, however, things are looking up and more children and disadvantaged members of the public will benefit from the exercise. The Lobatse Council has this time around been selected and is expected to distribute the proceeds to deserving communities in the area. Auditing firm, Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWHC) have also jumped on board and are expected to donate used and new clothing at the event.

Motsisi said the campaign has made a bigger impact now as it targets a wide range of people. He said donating to disadvantaged children only was a challenge as some of the clothes donated were too big and could not be utilised by the children. 'It is also a giant leap forward for companies like PWHC lending a helping hand to the needy,' he said. 'Imagine what would happen if all corporate companies did what PWHC are doing?' Motsisi asked rhetorically.

He said the general public should also develop a habit of giving voluntarily instead of waiting to do so through initiatives like his. He, however, said he would like to have more collection points across the country instead of just Gaborone. 'More collection points means more handover points and many regions will benefit from the Hotness In the Cold initiative,' he said.

Motsisi, however, said his dream is to see the Hotness In The Cold charity campaign growing into an independent Yarona fm event. 'Currently I am the one who has to activate it all the time but it would be great if it became part and parcel of the Yarona fm system,' he said. Motsisi said he would continue hosting the campaign annually as long as he works for youthful radio station. He applauded Yarona fm for being supportive of the initiative. 'I have always wanted to give to the less fortunate but it wouldn't have been easy if I did not have the Yarona fm platform,' he said. Deadline for donating clothing to the Hotness In the Cold charity campaign is tomorrow (Thursday). All donations are to be made at the Yarona fm studios in Kaunda Road, Gaborone.
