Culture Spears honour Kasane cultural groups

Culture Spears honoured the groups with lunch and dinner at their home in Mogoditshane. Kasane was represented by Matsosa Ngwao, Tse Tilodi as well as Lelekeng Drama group.

The evergreen Culture Spears originate from Kasane where they were part of Tse Tilodi dance troupe before breaking away to release their debut album, Korone that contains hits like Selonyana and Mmadikowana.

Culture Spears' front man Kabelo Mogwe says they wanted to do something special for the Kasane groups as a token of appreciation for their support throughout the years.

Mogwe says they also contributed special t-shirts, branded Tse Tilodi, to their former troupe, while the rest were given Culture Spears' branded mugs.  Meanwhile, Culture Spears continue to take their brand to new levels following the publication of a special brochure, which will soon be distributed among potential clients to enable them to learn more about their favourite ensemble. The eight-page brochure is printed in full colour and gives the reader a synopsis of the group, including discography, as well as some of the high profile shows in the last few years.

Mogwe expressed hope that the brochure would boost Culture Spears' image among potential clients across the country. By yesterday he was busy distributing the trendy brochures to selected companies in Gaborone.

He also hoped that the extensive profile of the group, as captured in the publication, would also be of great benefit to journalists and radio presenters who might have lost track of the origins and highlights of the group.

'Sometimes, even masters of ceremony (MCs) at big functions need something like this piece of information to enable them to work with much confidence when making announcements to the audience,' he said.

Culture Spears, among others, mention that since 2006 they have amassed five awards, including being declared double winners in 2007 when their hit album Kulenyane won them 'Song of the Year' and 'Artist of the Year' awards.

They also quote the honorary awards presented to them by President Ian Khama this year. In fact, the brochure carries a picture of Mogwe receiving the award from Khama.  Culture Spears have also captured at least 13 high profile events they did in South Africa since 2008.
