Chaka Chaka warms up for Bots with hot show in Kampala

'The sweetness of her voice left many perplexed at the fact that the older she gets, the sweeter her voice', reported  a Ugandan publication following her weekend show.

According to a Ugandan publication New Vision the  super diva impressed thousands  at Kampala recently . 'As soon as she stepped on the stage, people screamed and blew vuvuzelas, happy to see the 1980s superstar. Does anyone remember the mega hit, I Am In Love With The DJ? As soon as Chaka Chaka started singing it, the crowd went wild, dancing with all their strength,' reported Dominic Muwanguzi for the New Vision.

No sooner had the dust settled than the DJ played Umukomboti, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Chaka Chaka, also Africa's ambassador for peace, joined the excited audience, leading them in a procession around Hotel African's Nile conference hall enjoying the fun and joy her fans showed. The concert crowned the African Union (AU) summit whose agenda was to review the progress Africa has made towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It saw the super diva call upon HIV-positive people to take their antiretroviral (ARV) drugs regularly and those not yet affected to live responsibly, reported the Ugandan publication.

Chaka Chaka also called upon African leaders to deliver the services they promised their people at the Abuja, Nigeria, 2001 conference.

While in Uganda Chaka Chaka was also supported by local acts such as  Maddox Sematimba, Bobi Wine, Afande Charles, Joanita Kawalya, Fina Masanyalaze, Dr Proper, Jamime and sail-Uganda. Non-Ugandan singers included Miko Zulu, from Zambia and Mingas from Mozambique. Chaka Chaka's coming to Botswana will be more than just about her singing talents, the business woman and advocate for women and child's rights will on August 13  address a Women Empowerment seminar at the Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC).

Some of the proceeds at the GICC show will go towards three charities that are helping in the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria in the country. Charities are encouraged to contact Eyedeas if they wish to be considered amongst the three who will be chosen by Chaka Chaka herself.  Tickets of the GICC show will go for P1, 000 (includes dinner and gift pack) and the Botswanacraft show will go for P250. Tickets are available at Botswanacraft.
