Why Zebras played with Puma kit

BFA acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Susan Monametsi told Mmegi Sport that the Zebras were supposed to depart Gaborone on a chartered flight to Tunisia last week on Monday, the day All Kasi was to deliver the kit.

But changes in travel arrangements meant that the Zebras had to leave via a commercial flight; a day earlier on Sunday and the kit remained behind. 'The team departed earlier than we expected that is why the kit was left behind,' Monametsi explained.

She said the change in fixtures following Togo's re-admission and inclusion in the Zebras' group after a brief CAF ban had contributed to the kit problem. Monametsi said All Kasi was supposed to start supplying the kit for the 2012 qualifiers in September when the qualifiers start. But the Zebras' group started the campaign this month because the presence of Togo means there are five countries in the pool and not the usual four. Monametsi said they would meet All Kasi  to address matters raised by the use of the Puma kit. She promised that the national team would don the All Kasi kit starting with tomorrow's match against Chad.

All Kasi director, Frank 'Barnes' Maplanka referred questions to BFA, only confirming that they still had a standing agreement with the association. He said the Zebras would revert to the All Kasi kit when they take on Chad tomorrow. Maplanka was scheduled to meet the BFA yesterday. All Kasi became the first local kit manufacturer to dress the Zebras, replacing long term sponsors, Puma, two years ago. The Lobatse-based company signed a P2 million deal with the BFA in 2008.
