Manto 7 wins again

In the inaugural awards, Chris Manto 7, who is based in Shakawe, won P50 000, beating Vee in the process, as he was voted the Most Popular Artist, as well as Best live band. The following year, the big afro-haired star lost the title to Punah Gabasiane, who scooped the Live band category.

Kwasakwasa group, 100 Percent Africa, were also the surprise winners ahead of crowd-pullers Ekentolo, famous for the hit track, Chika! However, Magdeline Lesolebe aka Charma girl, told Showbiz she was disappointed that she missed out with just a point behind a group, which looked unprepared on stage. 'We remain very happy that our afro pop project is taking the country by storm.

Performing at the national finals has only made us even stronger; we have just received new orders for our music places as far as Ghanzi. I take it that ours is the album for the year, and not just a song for the day,' Charma girl said.
