Khama plans tours to counter defections

BDP spokesman, Comma Serema told Mmegi yesterday that Khama will address BDP supporters in Shoshong to tell them that their area MP, Dovedale/Mmaphashalala councillor Neo Magowe and nominated councilor Bobby Babusi have gone to the BMD. 'He will also urge the BDP faithful to keep their faith in our party and not be disenchanted by these self-seeking individuals,' he said. Makgalemele and the two councillors resigned yesterday and joined the BMD.

Serema said that this weekend, the BDP leadership will address a Shoshong branch meeting to inform the party structures that the three politicians have left. 'The meeting will be followed by rallies to be addressed by MPs and central committee members and later...Khama in the weeks ahead. We urge our members to remain calm and reassure them that ultimately the party will overcome,' he explained.

Serema told Mmegi that Khama will go to Mochudi to address the BDP faithful in Kgatleng West to urge them to stay put amidst defections. Over the weekend, the BMD received three defecting BDP councillors in Mochudi - two from Kgatleng West and one from Kgatleng East. Khama will also plead with Gaborone West South BDP supporters to remain calm and undeterred in their support for the party. The BDP has lost some councillors to the BMD in the constituency whose MP Botsalo Ntuane is BMD interim vice-chairman.
