Kgalalelo Is My Star 2010 Winner

The dreadlocked beauty, who always brought in a remarkable fashion sense to the race said this is a dream come true as she had always wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

'Words can't describe how I feel,' she said.More than once, Kgalalelo has been declared a star by both revellers and the judges. Interestingly, stardom appeared not to be a rainbow chase for her when in a very emotional performance she sent Kedibonye who was viewed as the Goliath of the show, her confidence and overwhelming stage command and presence worked wonders for her. The Computer Science student at NIIT said the opportunity came at the right moment as she was growing worried that at the age of 22 she had not started making necessary preparations for the entertainment industry.

The stardom package came in a recording contract, a scholarship worth P100 000 from Collegium Publishers and a cash prize of P250 000 from Mascom.

The scholarship will see her pursue Sound Engineering in Cape Town. In an interview with show owner and director Keabetswe 'Master D' Sesinyi said he chose that course so that it could groom her into a complete musician familiarised with the technical part mainly due to the budget. 'As it is a one year scholarship the budget could not cover areas like song writing and composition as they take much time hence choosing a shorter one that could see her grow in the entertainment industry,' he said.

The star believes the course will make her a complete entertainer as well, as she will be able to distinguish between good and bad sound. Having trained with Botswana Music Camp as a jazz singer, Kgalalelo is optimistic and promises to deliver 'music at its best'.   Asked what her recording trip to London will bring to the audiences' ears she said 'a deep album' and 'a very descent Kgalalelo album'. She also said the scholarship will come handy when she no longer wants to sing as she could focus her energy in sound, a field she has always liked to take.

Master D said the scholarship prize that this years' winner has received is very invaluable as it is a sign that the country is taking the show seriously and sees it as an investment opportunity.

The first and second runner ups are Wame Mangope and Galaletsang Kasweka who won P15 000 and P10 000 respectively. However, the former did not perform at the grand finale as she had tonsil infection.

Asked whether it was right for one contender not to perform at the finale, Maser D said the grand finale is mainly a crowning ceremony, as the votes readily told who the winner was. He added that he still has to meet with the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture in order to tell whether the duo like their predecessors will also be recorded.
