Gaborone shuns Khama's pet project

A report by Gaborone City Council (GCC) deputy town clerk, Leboile Israel, revealed that the programme is failing to reach its targets.

Speaking at a full meeting yesterday, Israel revealed that under the programme Gaborone needs about 3,149 workers but so far it has attracted only 1,272. Gaborone Central needs 631 workers but only 231 have signed up, while Gaborone South has 290 from a target of 631. Gaborone North has 302 workers and not the targeted 622. Gaborone West South has 211 instead of 643 and Gaborone West North has 239 of targeted 641.

Israel said the city council has to devise ways of attracting more people to the programme. The council has decided to increase the number of working hours in the daily programme from six to eight per day to attract more people.
