Golfers throw jabs ahead of Kim's tourney

Speaking from Mochudi, the diminutive Frost said players from the south are intimidated by the browns and that is why they did not win last year.

'They even admitted last year that they are unable to bring out their best in browns. It looks like they are in for another walloping this year,' he explained.

Last year, Frost scored 146 to beat second-placed Mpho Lekgoa and Shane Granger who had tied at 153 each in the P150, 000 two-day tournament.

Botswana Golf Union (BGU) secretary general, Mpho Kelosiwang who is from the south has dismissed Frost's claims saying they are not going to be turned into doormats this time around.

'Granted, the northerners have good players in terms of handicap, but I can tell you we are going to put up a good performance. We are preparing ourselves and the team is in good shape.

'They (northern players) have home ground advantage, but we are not going to be pushovers. It is going to be a good game,' he promised.

The firepower from the south include Kelosiwang, Lekgoa, Elliot Kgosibodiba, Tumelo Selekane, Kesentseng Dube, Modiri Phuthego and Tumelo Pabalinga.

The format of this year's Kim's Memorial tournament, which is sponsored by Gaborone-based Ethnic Investments, will change to match-play though there will be a few individual prizes.

Kelosiwang said they are preparing for regional tournaments and that is why they have opted for match-play. 'We are really conditioning ourselves for regional tournaments like the Zone VI one where our players always struggle because we never have match-play tournaments,' he said.

He explained that the entry for Kim's Memorial tournament will be limited to ensure quality.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Dave Bestman is not one of the tournament organisers as Mmegi Sport reported last week.
