A quiet transfer market

The window has been open since June 7 but only former BMC and Township Rollers' players, Musa Ohilwe and Thebe Maiketso have joined Gaborone United (GU). The two players were an integral part of the squad that helped BMC survive relegation under the tutelage of Mike Sithole who has also joined GU.

Although the Botswana Premier League had not received further additions at the time of going to press yesterday, some teams are said to have recruited new players. Zimbabwean striker, Farasai Nyamunamwendo, who took the Premier League by storm last season with Uniao Flamengo Santos, has joined his former coach, Clever Hunda, at Police XI. Nyamunamwendo led a youthful Gabane side, which finished third last season. It will be interesting to see how they cope without him. Former national Under-23 midfielder, Jackie Mothatego, is said to have returned to Santos. Mothatego had a short stint at Notwane before moving to Police XI. Township Rollers, who have lost coach Rahman Gumbo to Chiefs, are said to have signed former Notwane and Police XI defender, Canny Gaontebale. The move could have been meant to solve the problematic right back position where Rollers tried up to three players last season - Pius Kolagano, Mogomotsi Kerebotswe and Simisane Mathumo. The champions have been linked to Sekhana Koko as well as ECCO City Greens' striker, Patrick Lenyeletse.

Several Rollers' players have also been constantly linked with moves out of the club. Zimbabwean defender, Itayi Gwandu who joined Rollers at the start of last season from rivals, GU, is said to be refusing to pen a new contract. There are speculations that he could be joining Gumbo at Chiefs. The towering defender recently attended trials at Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, together with striker Terrence Mandaza. Motlakase are said to have released their two experienced players, Trevor Moiseraele and Eric Molebatsi. 

Meanwhile, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) has urged clubs to adhere to the procedures laid down in the BFA Play Rules and Regulations with regard to the registration of players for the 2010-2011 season to avoid wrangles. BFA marketing and communications manager, Phakamile Kraai said the registration will elapse on August 6 at 5pm. No registration, transfer nor loaning of players will be allowed after the deadline.
