Top ECCO goalkeepers head out

'We are busy negotiating with some goalkeepers at the moment though, at this stage, I cannot reveal their names,' Mathalaza said.  He added that ECCO has been aware of TAFIC's interest in Onkutlule although the club has not been formally approached. The goalkeeper was part of the ECCO side that won the league title four seasons ago.

Mathalaza said they are keen to retain the player although it is possible that he might join TAFIC during the current transfer window which closes on August 6. TAFIC spokesperson, Thomas Chabalala said the club was not in a position to release the names of the players it has signed.

Meanwhile, Mathalaza said ECCO decided to release Selapa to afford him game time elsewhere. 'We looked at different factors concerning Selapa, one of them being the performance. He was not given much game time to perform. He is a good goalkeeper as we have seen in the past when he was called to the Under-23 side. We have not done justice to Selapa as we did not give him the chance to prove his capability,' said Mathalaza.

Selapa has been with ECCO for three seasons. During the time, he deputised Noah Maposa in the Under-23 side. The young goalkeeper told Mmegi Sport that he had been approached by TASC and Gunners but nothing formal has been agreed.

'I am free to join a team of my choice since my contract came to an end last month. TASC and Gunners showed an interest in my services but we have not yet met formally,' said Selapa.
