Gaborone mum on next political move

The politician told Mmegi on Wednesday that he is still a member of the BNF and would remain an MP for South East North until 2014 or until death, whichever comes first.

Gaborone said he is aware of speculation that he is likely to leave the BNF for another party, possibly the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

This comes after he failed to show up at the Mochudi BNF Congress held over the President's Day holidays, where Duma Boko became party president. Gaborone quit the BNF presidential race a few weeks ago citing untoward behaviour by Boko's supporters.

While he would not state the reasons for not attending the congress, he said that his constituents were present and their choir provided music for those in attendance. He said that he would determine his political future in due course. There are already claims that he might find it difficult to work with the new BNF central committee. It is said the members of the new committee have never supported the past immediate office of which Gaborone is one.

The new committee has Isaac Mabiletsa as Boko's vice-president, Harry Mothei as chairman, Akanyang Magama as secretary general, Michael Mzwinila as organising secretary and Moeti Mohwasa as spokesman.

Meanwhile, vice-president of BNF Women's Wing, Rhoda Sekgororoane has welcomed the new central committee saying they are confident it would revive the party structures. She said they would like the committee to give positions of power for women.

She is not satisfied that only two women made it to the central committee. She said the women supported Boko because he had never been involved in party factions.
