Molao quits BNYC, eyes Tonota North

Molao announced on Wednesday at a press conference that he was resigning his plum job to focus on politics. His target: the Tonota North parliamentary seat that fell vacant with the recent death of former cabinet minister, Baledzi Gaolathe. Molao has had to resign his plum job in the hope that he will win both his party's primary elections and the by-election.

Earlier this year, Youth and Sports Minister, Shaw Kgathi gave BNYC staff up to March 30 to stop being active members of political parties. While he says that he is sad to be leaving BNYC, Molao maintains that he was not pushed.

'I have come to a conclusion after some soul searching that I should resign from the employ of the BNYC to go and pursue my long-held political interest, which is to contest the Tonota North constituency,' he said.

Molao said that he has been a political activist all his life and now, he thinks it is wise to avail his services for a higher calling as an MP. He came to the decision after being approached by party members. 'I have had representation from both young and old people to take this path and after soul searching, I have been persuaded to offer myself to the people of Tonota,' he said.

Molao described his decision to quit the BNYC as the most difficult he has ever made in his life. He said he was not motivated by money but genuine interest to serve his people. The post he is quitting is pegged at E1 scale, which attracts about P30,000 salary a month, twice what an MP earns.
