BAA announces LOC for Africa Youth Championships

The committee is headed by Solly Reikeletseng with Dickson Gabanakgosi in charge of protocol. Dorcus Montlane will handle the competition's logistics. Tebatso Hule will be responsible for communications while Reuben Rathedi will be the technical expert. Phemelo Matome will oversee publications and promotions with Bobby Gaseitsiwe as the competition director. Kefilwe Ramphaleng is the committee secretary.

In his acceptance speech, Reikeletseng acknowledged the challenging task ahead. 'We do not see this championship as restricted to sport but as an opportunity to showcase Botswana, its hospitality, business opportunities and our beautiful tourism industry,' he said. He added that they will identify all stakeholders who will be key in ensuring the success of the games. He said since the government has completed two new stadia and refurbished the National Stadium, they have an option in choosing the best venue for the event. Reikeletseng said they have already coined the games' theme to be launched after approval by  BAA.

Kesholofetse Phethu congratulated BAA for winning the right to host the competition. She said it takes a sound and consistent history of participation at the games to get the nod to host the games. Botswana was bidding against Egypt and Algeria. 'Our economy is one of the most stable in the world and our security is rated amongst the best,' Phethu said.
