Major boost for Kenosi ahead of Africa event

The Kanye-born athlete finished the 100m in 10.5 seconds before clocking 20.84 seconds in the 200m. The national championships were his last competitive race ahead of the Africa event scheduled for August 1 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Kenosi told Mmegi Sport said he was happy with his progress ahead of the 17th edition of the Africa Championships. 'My preparations have gone on well so far and it was evident in the races I ran last weekend. I am happy with the way I performed but I still need to improve on my times especially in the 200m race,' he said.

The 22-year-old sprinter is eager to break the 200m record that he set at the 2008 Africa Championships when he won a bronze medal in the race in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He finished the race in 20.72 seconds to set a new national record.

G4S contact, Gwen Harry, whose company sponsors Kenosi, said the sprinter's preparations are on course. He is currently based at the BNSC Sports Village where he is focusing on improving on his times. 'Fanuel's preparations have remained steady over the last month. G4S would love to see Fanuel compete internationally and are hopeful that he will get more exposure in his preparations for the African Championships,' she said. Kenosi has been performing well lately after he won gold in the 200m at the Permit Meet in Mauritius in May. He walked away with $1,000 prize money.
