Modubule speaks out

Modubule was expelled from the BNF in 2008 and has sought to have his expulsion reversed but to no avail, he said.

The maverick MP was addressing Lobatse constituents on Wednesday at a meeting organised to inform them about his intention to move to another party.

'Towards the BNF special congress of 2009, I wrote them a letter through my attorneys requesting to have my matter heard before the congress but the central committee refused and told me no BNF congress will ever listen to my request (have the expulsion reversed).

I also tried in 2008 and was not given an audience as I was closed out of the BNF congress held in Jwaneng. I have been patient and persistent in seeking to be re-admitted but they are not interested in having me back.

I spent over 32 years in the BNF and it's not an easy decision I am taking but I have to, because I can see they don't want me anymore. They would rather die for [Duma] Boko than me. This Friday I will call a press conference to say which party I am going to,' he said.

Modubule has been making statements at rallies held by the new Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) where he indicated that he was ready to join the party. Some BMD insiders have also indicated that the Modubule Friday announcement will 'be to tell the nation that he is officially joining the BMD,' said one insider.

However BNF spokesman Moeti Mohwasa has said that the party is dealing with the matter of the legislator's application for re-admission into the party.

'One goes to the congress to appeal a decision, but as far as we are concerned Modubule has made an application for membership and not an appeal. We therefore cannot deal with something that is not before us,' said Mohwasa.
