Tswapong soccer academy gets technical sponsor

The academy chairperson, Moses Moloko, said Sinohydro will provide them with [foot]balls and training bibs for the next three years.

He said the academy has adopted three primary schools; Boipuso, Lerala and Khurumela and two junior secondary schools, Lerala and Mabogo as centres for identifying young players with potential to be exposed to the required training.

In the primary schools, the focus will be on the Under-12 players while the secondary schools will be used for identifying Under-15 talent. He pointed out that there is a lot of talent in the Tswapong region, which only needs to be nurtured.

Some of the objectives of the academy include promoting the spirit of competition among the youth in the Tswapong area and the search for new and uncapped talent in the region.

Moloko said though they started the academy last year, they only started operating in May this year during the school vacations. He explained that the coaching clinics for Palapye schools take place on a full time basis.

At Lerala, the clinics take place during weekends and school vacations. Moloko said that they would have liked to cover the whole of Tswapong area but are hampered by shortage of resources.

He said they have a 10-year plan in which they plan to form a senior team after five years from the players in the academy.

If the team manages to play even in the Premier League at the end of the 10-year period, they would have a solid foundation to sustain them in the long run.

He said they are currently using Boipuso Primary School ground as their centre. Lerala Primary School ground is used for Lerala schools. 'At the moment, we are looking at the possibility of acquiring land so that in future, we work with  our own resources,' he said.

He added that they would encourage clubs in the Tswapong region to field teams in the youth league to give the youngsters exposure.
