Siviya retains Tati landboard chairmanship

The Tati Landboard executive elections are held annually but one of the 10-board members was absent on Monday when his colleagues endorsed Siviya, who is a social worker by training.  The three candidates who slugged it out are Siviya, Mchive and Mukokomani.  Siviya got five votes while Mukokomani got three and Mchive only got one vote.

Elizabeth Molapise the outgoing chairperson did not stand for re-election this time paving the way for others.  With her out of the race, Ellington Khiyani, Siphiwe Mguni and Tafisa Dube tried their luck with Dube coming out triumphant.

Dube got four votes against Mguni's three votes while Khiyani got one vote.In his acceptance speech, Siviya thanked all the board members especially the long serving ones such as Dube, Mchive and Joshua Njavera. He said he hopes to tap on the experiences of the long serving members during his term in office. 'It is through your contributions in the running of the board that we have accomplished a lot in the past years,' he said and thanked the staff and board members for all the cooperation they have been giving him since he became chairman.

The re-elected chairperson said professional happiness from the inner side matters most and encouraged people to learn more about each other in order to bring out the best in everyone for the sake of progress in the work place.

For his part Dube thanked the board members for electing him as the vice-chairperson saying it is a sign of confidence that after taking a break from the leadership position in the board, they have found it fit to bring him back.

He encouraged Tati landboard staff to work hand in hand with the board members and 'most importantly consult us on every issue for the members to be carried along in all activities.'

He also encouraged them to put their development goals in the annual plan for the success of the landboard.
