Gabane road tarring project awaiting fund approval

This followed a report of the Kweneng District Council (KDC) meetings by the village's councillors. Councilor Ofentse Mareme (Gabane North East) said the concerned ministry is yet to approve the funds needed for the road construction.

'...So far, it is just the survey that has been done. However the plans show that the roads will be bigger than in other villages because of Gabane's proximity to Gaborone as projections show that the traffic volume will increase over time,' said Mareme.

According to Mareme, Kweneng District took too long to be partitioned into sub-districts hence it was lagging behind in terms of development. As a remedial measure, Mogoditshane and Thamaga will be sub-districts with the former getting resources from Mogoditshane as it would gradually become self supporting.

Councillor Patrick Manthe will chair the Mogoditshane sub district and an office in Mogoditshane that will be used as the sub-district's head office has already been identified.

Other issues raised by the councillors at this meeting include the delay in refuse collection which resulted in residents heaping rubbish near the road or at bus stops causing environmental pollution.

Also of concern was the need for a clinic at Gasiko ward as well as the poor drainage system in the area.
