BSA to discipline teams over unplayed fixtures

Gatalamotho and Wells both from Jwaneng, failed to honour fixtures against BMC and Blue Angels.

Botswana Softball Association (BSA) competitions organiser Kelebogile Lepodise said action would be taken once investigations are complete. Lepodise said the league committee was expected to submit a report on the matter by the end of business yesterday. She said at their request, Jwaneng teams travel together in order to share transport costs. Lepodise said if one of the teams failed to travel, then both teams would stay home.

She said if the two teams are found guilty, they are likely to forfeit runs because they would be first offenders. Lepodise said if there were second offenders, they would be called for a hearing before being suspended from the league, if they are guilty. Lepodise said the two teams did not indicate that they would not turn up for the Saturday games.

She said the two attended the southern zone league meeting the previous weekend and never mentioned that they might encounter problems travelling to Gaborone. Efforts to get a comment from the two teams at the time of going to press were futile, as the team managers' cell phones were unreachable. It is expected that the three fixtures, failure will affect the league because already there is a backlog from last year's games.

Meanwhile, Sunday games went on as planned though the game between Police and Vikings ended in a tie and both clubs disagreed on the next step. Vikings, players wanted the game to continue after the seventh inning, in order to break the tie but Police opposed the decision. BSA spokesperson, Kabelo Kwape said they would look into the matter to see if the game can be rescheduled.
