Abednico relishes new Rollers' challenge

'You might say I am a slow player who relies heavily on physical strength and good passing but I can fit into any team. Maybe Rollers have been looking for such a player who could win the ball and release the speedy wingers to launch attacks,' Abednico said.

He told Mmegi Sport that his former team, ECCO were also keen on having him back but Rollers put up a better offer. The 24-year-old midfield maestro who once had a short stint at South Africa's Bay United said it was important to make a move that would benefit his career rather than to remain loyal to certain individuals. 'I need to make the most out of my career while I am still young. I have been frustrated for the last few months without playing. I needed to see myself playing and Rollers offers me such an opportunity,' he said.

Abednico's problems started during the last transfer window when Gunners and Gaborone United (GU) allegedly cut a deal for him to move without his knowledge. Gunners have denied the allegations. It said Gunners were paid P20,000 as transfer fee and when Abednico refused to move from Lobatse, GU demanded their cash back. The delay in refunding the money resulted in GU withholding the player's registration book without which he could not play. This season, he has only featured once for Gunners, ironically against Rollers in the season opener.

Even after the Players' Status Committee ruled that Abednico belonged to Gunners, GU refused to hand over the registration book insisting that they want their money back.

'This whole thing has taught me never to trust anyone. Some people who run football are crooks. Even when someone claims to be your friend, you must not believe what he says.

Training without playing was not what I wanted but I ended up in that situation and no one has up to this day told me the truth about what really transpired,' the player said.

Abednico stated that he has put the incident behind him and he is now focused on playing again.
