Murder suspect, allegedly robbed by relatives

Youngman Dube, 46 is languishing in prison awaiting trial after he allegedly killed his wife in November last year.

Apparently, the matrimonial home that Dube shared with his deceased wife Haniffah remained unoccupied after the tragedy and was broken into and goods stolen towards the end of last year.

Kgosi Oganne Fox of Matshelagabedi Village says that though he knows about the matter it has not reached the main Kgotla yet.

'It is being handled at the ward where the home is and has not reached this Kgotla yet,' he said.

An elderly member of the community, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that they were aware of the case and it was still ongoing in Matshelagabedi at the ward. She confirmed that indeed the incident took place sometime last month.

'The house was broken into and property such as plates, cups and other household goods were stolen,' she said.  She went on to say that a relative of Dube's was being held in connection with the theft and she would be tried at the ward this Saturday.

Speculation by the community is that the person who stole the items was Dube's lover who often posed as his aunt.  Dube is alleged to have hacked his wife to death and then reportedly staged a car accident last year November 9 near the Impala Agricultural Centre.

Dube is now in prison waiting to be committed to the high court for trial of the murder of his 47-year-old wife. Dube is billed to appear before Francistown magistrate Pride Rushike next week Wednesday for mention. Officer Commanding Senior Superintendent Chabaesele Kesupetswe of Botswana police says that they are not aware of the matter.

'They have not told us anything but they could have reported the matter to Matsiloje police because they are closer to them,' he said referring to the concerned family.  But efforts to solicit comments from the Matsiloje police hit a snag yesterday, as the station commander was not available for comment.
