Scar's Open Bar impressive

With Open Bar, the artist has most certainly cemented his place as a leading hip-hop artist in the country and there is no doubt that Scar aka Lebadi is ready set for the international market.

The opening song in the album is the title track Open Bar. This is a good and enjoyable track that will get the artist's fans dancing to the beat though it will most certainly not go down well with the present government since it (the song) promotes indulgence in the 'waters of Babylon'.

In Open Bar, Scar seems to present himself as an agent of overindulgence and ironically, instead of warning his listeners to 'drink responsibly', he warns them to 'listen responsibly'.

Other equally good tracks in the album include Broadway; Follow follow; Cheater; Gorileng; They already know; Changing; Utlwa; So fresh; Skima le nna; Like this; and Take 'em.

One of the things that most certainly make Open Bar an outstanding album is that it was well cooked and many of the songs are engaging, a feat that few local artists manage to acquire.

Like other hip hop artists, Scar primarily seeks to entertain and he has done a splendid job as he 'disses' his rivals about this and that.

The artist also did justice to the album by collaborating with some of the big names in the industry, including Tshepo Lesole, Pongo Rista, Orakle, K-Bos, Juju Boy and Mosako.

Interestingly, Scar showcased his songwriting skills by collaborating with a number of songwriters in all the songs.

One can only hope that the artist will soon spread his wings and try to capture the international markets, more especially the South African market where there are many Setswana-speakers.

The only disappointing thing about the album is the sleeve, which is not so impressive.
Surely the graphic designer could have done a better job to draw people's attention to this album, which is loaded with goodies.

Orange Botswana and Yarona FM must be commended for supporting this worthy initiative.
