Combination Stars See Red

The minnows who had run amok the previous weekend, crushing Sowa Flamingoes 7-0 in a league game, should be thankful to goalkeeper, Kenosi Masimo for conceding only 13 goals. The custodian was outstanding despite the heavy score as GU penetrated the opposition's porous defence at will.

GU upped the tempo in the 15th minute after a cautious start by both sides and nearly scored but Branco Molokwane made an infringement that attracted a yellow card from referee Joshua Bondo. The first goal came in the 20th minute when Chikomo headed home a cross from DRC midfielder, Mamukina Mayuka. Chikomo got the second in the 28th minute and grabbed the third from the spot after Mpho Mabogo was brought down inside the box. Mabogo made it 4-0 a few minutes before the break following a pass from Chikomo who had dazzled an awestruck and ball watching Stars defence. The score was 4-0 at half time. Though it was a forgone conclusion that GU will be runaway winners, there was no sign of the avalanche.  In the 50th minute, Masimo saved a close range shot from Chikomo, but a minute later, Wellington Maposa, who came on as a substitute, rose above to head in a corner.

From then on, Stars crumbled and it appeared as if GU were facing only one man - Masimo between the goal posts. After the game, diminutive Stars' coach, Edward 'Skizzo' Itireleng looked like a punch-drunk boxer. 'That was too much,' was all he could say.
