Pick n Pay supports P10 000 donation to Cancer Association

The funds were raised through the Annual 2009 Cycle Race, a PTA fundraiser which has been a calendar event for the past six years. The supermarket chain supported the Parents Teachers Association's fundraiser, resulting in the donation made to the Cancer Association of Botswana (CAB) on Thursday.

Handing over the donation, PTA Chairperson, Venessa Boshoff said every year the association held several fundraising activities, including the Cycle Race, with the proceeds going towards various charitable organisations. 'The Cancer Association of Botswana is one of the charities that has benefited from the PTA's fundraising activities, but it is not the only one. Last year, we gave out P28 000 to four charities, including this donation being made to the CAB,' she said.

Receiving the donation, CAB Executive Director, Kelly Murphy paid tribute to the supermarket and the PTA's efforts, noting that financial support was difficult to come by for non-profit organisations. She revealed that Pick n Pay in Botswana has been generous to the CAB, donating P5 000 during the official opening of the South Ring Mall outlet.

'What they are doing is great; every year they support organisations such as ours. The Cycle Race is also a great way for children and families to get involved in this type of initiative.

'The CAB does not receive government or international funding so we are very grateful to these community groups who raise funds for the cause,' she said.
