Baby burns to death

The mother of the baby was allegedly taking a bath inside the house when the incident occurred. According to superintendent Rodney Nkokwe of Kutlwano Police, the baby was burnt to death in the fire that had been allegedly caused by the older boy while playing with a dilapidated wardrobe outside the house.

The fire was spotted by a neighbour who raised the alarm in alerting the mother of the child. Supt Nkokwe said the mother and the neighbours where able to put out the fire and rushed the baby, who was severely burnt, to the hospital. He was certified dead on arrival at the hospital.

Nkokwe said they were investigating the matter to ascertain the cause of the fire. He however appealed to parents to take care of their children when they are playing, adding that they should keep flammable things like matches out of reach of children.
