A first! Open-heart surgery at Princess Marina Hospital!

While Acting Hospital Superintendent Dr Vincent Molelekwa refused to either deny or confirm the good news, choosing to call the press today at 6pm, sources within the hospital confirmed that the operation was indeed a success. A team of experts led by a leading Mauritian open-heart surgeon conducted the four-hour operation.

Open-heart surgery is cited as the most evasive of heart procedures.  To conduct the operation, doctors cut open the patient's chest and surgery is performed on the heart muscle, valves, arteries, or other heart structures.

Depending on the surgery that the doctors want to correct the heart may or may not be opened.
