Miss Millennium Valentine donates to needy

 

On Sunday, Letsholo put a smile on the faces of some of the families in the village as she handed out donations at a ceremony held at the Millennium club. In all 10 families benefited from the project.

Letsholo said she was assisted by social welfare workers to identify the beneficiaries who received food parcels and clothing items.The beauty queen has been raising funds at the jazz club to assist some of the needy families. She said she had been able to raise more than P2, 000 for the project.

She encouraged club patrons to donate items of clothing and host jazz shows to raise funds for the poor.

One of the beneficiaries, Catherine Masimolole, said she appreciated what Letsholo and the Millennium club had done for them.

The 63-year-old Masimolole is registered as a destitute. Her children are not employed so she depends on government handouts. A social worker in Mogoditshane, Portia Kaisara also hailed the contributions that Miss Millennium Valentine has made. Kaisara called on other people, including organisations to emulate her fine example. She said some churches in Mogoditshane have been assisting needy people, especially children.

Such contributions, she said, go a long way in supplementing government poverty alleviation efforts. One of the directors of Millennium, Shima Monageng, said they are proud of Letsholo's efforts. Monageng said they, as proprietors, are also willing to plough some of their profits back to the Moditshane community because that is where their business is located. He said they have also demonstrated that their clubs have a special role to play in community development.

When crowned last year as Miss Millennium Valentine, Letsholo revealed that some of her projects would include working on social responsibility programmes.

She felt there was a need to assist the communities, especially in Mogoditshane where the club is based.

Meanwhile, Monageng revealed that preparations for this year's Miss Millennium Valentine beauty pageant are at an advanced stage.

The competition that was first staged in 2008 is open to women aged 40 and above.Monageng said since they started the event it has proved to be immensely popular with the patrons. The Millennium has become one of the most popular jazz joints in the country.
