Marumo in early Egypt exit

Marumo has come back prematurely after the EPL banned foreign goalkeepers from plying their trade in Egypt earlier than expected. Initially, the EPL said foreign goalkeepers will leave at the end of their contracts but this was changed to the end of January. Marumo's deal with Haras El-Hodood was due to expire at the end of the current season but the former BDF XI star was ordered to leave at the end of last month.

The Zebras' skipper, who arrived in the country last week, has been drafted into the squad preparing for the African Championships (CHAN). The Zebras will host Bafana Bafana in the first round qualifier during the weekend of March 12-13 before travelling to South Africa for the return leg two weeks later.

'We have called Marumo to the national team camp after he arrived from Egypt a few days ago. We will consider him for the games since he is back in the country. He is an experienced goalkeeper and will obviously add value to the team although he will have to fight for a place like every other player,' Zebras' coach Stan Tshosane told Mmegi Sport.

Marumo was in his third season with the Alexandria-based Haras El-Hodood before the Egyptian federation wielded the axe on foreign goalkeepers. The decision was taken in response to national coach, Hassan Shehata's concerns over the lack of quality custodians in the North African country.

Meanwhile, sources at Mochudi Centre Chiefs have said the club is lining up a bid for the Zebras' goalkeeper. Three weeks ago, Marumo said that he would give his former club, BDF XI, first preference when he comes back.
