New BRU committee optimistic

Pandor, previously BRU secretary, said it is imperative for the new committee to continue from where their predecessors left. 'I am quite optimistic, and I believe that the new body will be able to effectively carry out BRU's mandate,' he said.

Pandor said in order for the new body to be effective, they would have to work hand in hand with all the affiliates and major stakeholders. 'One of the objectives is to deliver what people want and involve everyone including fans in the running of the sport,' he said.

He further urged outgoing committee members and those who lost the election to support the sport in whatever way possible. 'Outgoing members should be in a position to assist wherever possible, as their expertise is relevant whilst those who weren't elected but have ideas that can be used by BRU should step forward and present them as the main objective is to grow Botswana rugby,' he said.

For the next two years, the new committee, led by new president Bob Lekan, will run the affairs of the union.

Lekan beat former vice president Joe Thokweng and succeeds immediate past president Dave Gilbert.

Two members of the committee, Motshegetsi Bontseng and Modiegi Leepile retained their seats. Bontseng remains treasurer and Leepile as an additional member. Thusego Segaise is the new additional member replacing Jan Erasmus. The new secretary is Mpho Masisi.
