Mainline churches to host music concert

The event, to be held at Botlhale English Medium Primary School, will be held under the theme: A masedi a tuke - meaning 'let the light shine'. The event spokesperson Christopher Kikoyo said through raising funds for the under privileged they are shining light into their lives.   Eight choirs from five churches are expected to participate in the festival. They are the United Congressional Council of Southern Africa (UCCSA), Methodist, Dutch Reformed, Evangelical Lutheran in Botswana and the Roman Catholic Church.

The concert is aimed mainly to raise funds for charity, to preach gospel through music, to promote love of different denominations, as well as Christian relationship.

Some of the organisations that benefited from the concert proceeds in the past include Thuso Rehabilitation Centre, Lephoi Centre for the Blind, Pudulogong Rehabilitation centre, Mothers Union Centre, Catholic Nurses Guild and Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre. According to information from the Mainline church choirs the event this time will be broadcast live on Botswana Television (Btv).

Kikoyo said they expect that more people would come to their aid after watching the event on TV. He said last year they raised P30, 000 and that this year they hope to raise about P50, 000 as the event has grown in the 10 years it has been in existence.

The Gaborone Mainline church choirs was formed in 1997 and pioneered by the Reformed Church in Botswana. Kikoyo said they continue to invite more mainline churches to join them because they want the event to grow into a force to reckon with. Kikoyo pleaded with Batswana to turn up in large numbers and enjoy music while supporting charity.
