Gabs Autumn Music Gig slated for end of March

According to promoter-cum-engineer, Lemmy Masekela of Fun Sounds Promotion, the show will feature among others, local artists Socca Moruakgomo, Dithuso 'DT' Selepeng, Naledi 'Slizer' Kaisara. South African acts are the all-female group, Ladies in Jazz and keyboardist, Ezbie Moilwa.

'This time around, we chose to host the show indoors because an indoor event has less logistical problems, has more security controls and the sound is more organised,' explained Masekela in an interview with Showbiz. So far Fun Sounds Promotions' shows, which target middle income earners, have been staged successfully in the city attracting a lot of revellers.

However, Masekela pointed out that last year, he was not able to host any show because he was busy with other projects adding that the tough new liquor laws negatively impacted his business in the last two shows because he was forced to end them before the stipulated times. Masekela has however promised revellers their money's worth in the upcoming show by giving them live music adding that back-tracking artists are not welcome.

'Why should I bring an artist to hold the microphone and dance to the music that is being played by a DJ in the background?' said the promoter adding that he also does not intend to have DJs playing music during intervals as the 'show is meant to be  strictly live' .  The outspoken promoter says that although in the past he used radio to promote his shows, he is going to avoid them because they have the tendency to play the music of artists who do not feature in his events.

The Gabs Autumn Music Gig is slated to kick off at 3 pm and end at midnight and revellers will be given prizes such as caps, beer mugs and CDs depending on their availability. Tickets for the show go for P 130 and P 150 at the gate and they are available at Kgalagadi Music World (Game City), Bears (BBS Mall), Gaborone West Fitness Centre and Millennium Jazz Restaurant (Mogoditshane).

In the past, Fun Sounds Promotions brought huge South African stars such as Hugh Masekela (who also happens to be a relative of Lemmy), Tshepo Tshola and Nthando. The sponsors are Mmegi and Lerorech Technologies.
