Tshireletso fears for her life

The incident occurred on Monday night, she confirmed. She said that apparently the thief broke through one of the windows or doors and went straight to her bedroom where he also searched her handbags but found no money.

'The intruder then scattered my bank cards all over the room and I did not hear anything because I was in deep sleep. I don't know what could have happened had I woken up when he was still in the room.  He was probably going to kill me,' Tshireletso said. The intruder left her sim cards. She said that she only learned about the break-in the following morning when her children came to investigate why her phones were off and she found her things scattered around the room. 'I am very lucky that I did not wake up when he was still in the room.  We are not safe in this place and I fear that one day they will do worse things,' she said, expressing her fear of being raped.

This is not the first time thugs have broken into Tshireletso's flat. In 2006 she also fell victim to thieves, together with three other MPs and they went away with their cellphones. She said that she did not know whether the perpetrator could be an insider who was always monitoring their movements and checking which of the doors or windows were not closed or was just an outsider. She also cast doubt on the security of the electric fence erected along the boundary wall of the Parliamentary flats and the manner in which security officers carry out their patrols.

She revealed that the matter has been reported to the police but they were not able to track the perpetrators.

Our attempts to get a comment from Central Police Station, which is responsible for the area were futile at the time of going to press as their phones rang unanswered.
