Chiefs Stay The Course

Magosi now have 39 points after 11 wins and six draws and head coach Wesley Mondo left the university stadium smiling on the night.

The Kgatleng giants once again produced another impressive performance that stretched their unbeaten record to 17 games this season. At this rate, Chiefs might repeat the feat of 2007-2008 season when they won the league unbeaten. 'It was a good game and we expected a tough game though they (Killer Giants) didn't command well. We played well considering that we came from another tough game against Township Rollers,' said Mondo.

While he might have been satisfied with the performance of his charges, Magosi were not convincing in defence where once again Michael Mogaladi and Given Mpundu failed to execute their duties well. Even goalkeeper Barolong 'Toldo' Lemmenyane was shaky. If Killer Giants' attacker Tapela Ngwenya and his teammates were on alert, they could have punished Chiefs' defensive frailties.

Chiefs' attackers wasted numerous scoring chances with Musonda Mweuku and Lesego Galenamotlhale being the main culprits. Chiefs went to the break leading 1-0 through Sekhana 'Nandos' Koko who scored in the 26th minute. The speedy forward seems to be enjoying his game at Chiefs this season and has been rewarded with a national team call-up. Mweuku made the game safe for the Mochudi side in the 58th minute when he benefited from a rebound after Killer Giants' goalkeeper Takubzwa Ndoro parried Koko's shot back into play.

Killer Giants' head coach, Godfrey Tamirepi said he was satisfied with the performance of his side considering that they have been idle for two weeks. After giving Chiefs too much respect in the opening half, Sebatana came out with guns blazing in the second half but were let down by poor finishing. 'I must say that we played well in the second half. We conceded two stupid goals but I must not take credit away from Chiefs because they played well. There is nothing to complain about from this game because we were beaten fairly,' he said.

Tamirepi said that it is important to start picking points now if they want to avoid relegation. Sebatana remain in the relegation zone and must work hard to avoid a drop to the cash-strapped First Division. On Friday night, it became clear that Killer Giants have to work on their game especially in the last quarter of the pitch because that is where they were found wanting.

Meanwhile, Galabgwe Moyana made his debut for Chiefs against Killer Giants on Friday, coming in for the last 10 minutes. The player showed little glimpses of the form which made Chiefs sign him from Notwane. He replaced under-fire Moemedi 'Jomo' Moatlhaping who redeemed himself admirably in the game.
