New Official Poses Dilemma For BNSC, BNOC

The former teacher has been appointed to the newly created BNSC projects officer. She is currently in South Africa on a two-week training course.  BNSC and BNOC officials have so far failed to say what is going to happen to Mothibi after the recent development. BNSC marketing and communications manager, Chris Nkwe said he is not sure of the way forward because they have never had such a case before. He suspects that a special arrangement was made for Mothibi during the interview. BNSC executive secretary could not be reached as he is currently outside the country.

Dickson Gabanakgosi of BNOC said they have not been formally informed about Mothibi's appointment at BNSC. He said they will decide on the way forward once they have been informed of the matter. He added that the constitutions of the two bodies will guide them on what to do.

'She was democratically elected and she cannot just be removed from the committee,' Gabanakgosi said. BNOC secretary general, Moses Moruise said the BNSC will be in the right position to answer what happens to Mothibi. He said the BNOC does not discriminate against anyone hence even members of the BNSC can be part of the BNOC executive committee.

Such cases are not common between the two bodies and there was confusion last year when Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) development officer Bobby Gaseitsiwe sought to run for a position in the BNOC committee. The BNSC was not clear how to handle Gaseitsiwe's situation. BNSC executive secretary, Kitso Kemoeng only said then that Gaseitsiwe did not inform them about their intention. Gaseitsiwe ended up withdrawing from contesting the BNOC polls.
