Palapye Gets First Rugby Club

'We know it is not going to be easy to run the club but we are determined,' he said. He hopes that his experience in running previous rugby clubs would help. Bulls were formed last year and have applied to be a member of the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU).

It is largely expected that the BRU's Annual General Meeting (AGM) next month will approve the application.

Mosienyane said the club is the first in the Central-District and will offer people in the area an opportunity to watch local rugby.

He said a women's team is in the pipeline once the men's team is stable.

Mosienyane said their intention is to bring diversity in rugby, which has been dominated by clubs from Gaborone.

BRU spokesperson, Aupa Pandor is elated at the formation of Bulls. He said it is symbolic of the growth of rugby in the country.

'It shows the game is growing in the country. Having more clubs means more competition and we will have a large pool of national team players to choose from,' Pandor said.

Additionally, the formation of the club will increase chances of sponsorship for the game because it is a sign of growth. Pandor said the association wants to revive clubs that have become dysfunctional.

To this end, the BRU has engaged schools with the aim of training teachers to coach students.

BRU has six clubs playing in Division A while Division B has 10 sides. Bulls will compete in Division B once its membership is approved.
