Kofukan conducts outreach training sessions

The sessions will be held in Bobonong, Palapye, Maun and Ghanzi. Sensei Million Masumbika, Sensei Otto Tafa, Sensei Lucas Rakgampu and George Tshikare will conduct the training sessions.

Tshikare, the BKF spokesman said the training sessions are aimed at assisting schools, clubs and individuals who have no qualified coaches and instructors.

He said the federation will continue to have such courses throughout the year to serve all areas of the country where they have members. He stated that their bid to spread the sport to other areas might be hampered by financial constraints.

Tshikare said they were inspired to act by what they saw during the national Botswana Games last year when they realised that there is talent that needs to be nurtured.

He said the games were an eye opener as they presented the BKF with a rare opportunity of seeing players from the countryside. Tshikare said the federation's membership is growing and so is the level of competition. BKF currently has 45 clubs though Tshikare explained that some of them are not active for various reasons.

The training sessions are expected to help members to prepare for the forthcoming Kofukan Youth and Senior Open Invitation championships next month.

BKF is an affiliate of the Kofukan International and the Botswana Karate Association (BOKA).
